Online Media, Powerful Tool for Promoting Good Governance – Speakers

Speakers at a public lecture in Abeokuta have canvassed the active participation of Nigerians in the process of electing leaders who will be accountable and visionary.

A guest lecturer, Dr Otive Igbuzor, panellists and other discussants at the 6th-anniversary lecture of Penpushing Media were speaking on the theme “National Balance: Infrastructure, Institutional Capacity and Diversity as Tools for Balancing Blocs and Good Governance In Nigeria”.

Dr Igbuzor, the Founding Director, the African Center for Leadership Strategy and Development Center also emphasized the need for citizens to embrace diversity and promote a culture of respect for different political and religious views for enhanced unity.

 Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who noted the significant influence of online media on shaping public opinion, advocated the urgent need for regulatory measures to combat the menace of fake news to enable the online media to serve as a force for truth, transparency, and progress, rather than misinformation and chaos.

Similarly, Former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi as well as the Olowu of Owu kingdom, Professor Saka Matemilola, represented by Chief Biodun Lasile emphasized the significance of embracing online media as a powerful tool for promoting good governance and fostering greater transparency, accountability, and civic engagement.

Chairman, the Editorial Board of Penpushing, Mrs Olufunke Fadugba and the Anniversary Planning Committee Chairman, Dr Abiola Afolabi -Akiode in their separate remarks renewed the organization’s commitment to excellence, adding that the lecture was focused on highlighting the pathways to achieving national balance, robust infrastructure and a more harmonious society.

In a remark, the Founder, Penpushing Media, Mr. Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji expressed gratitude to everyone for supporting the organization as a driving force in promoting good governance and holding government accountable to the people.

The event was witnessed by representatives of many Secondary Schools and higher institutions, scholars and dignitaries from far and wide, including the General Manager, Radio Nigeria Paramount FM, Abeokuta, Mr Akinyinka Akintola.
