Former Oyo State governor and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has hearkened to the pleas of his loyalists to accept crown like other Members of Olubadan-in-Council.

Senator Ladoja stated this while speaking with Radio Nigeria at his Bodija Residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Otun Olubadan said, since the crown was merely ceremonial which could not affect his becoming the Olubadan, he maintained that he accepted to take the crown based on popular demand of Ibadan sons and daughters both at home and in the Diaspora who wanted him to become Olubadan when it is his turn.

Senator Ladoja added that his colleagues who were crowned earlier did not undergo any traditional rites through the Oluwo of Ibadanland.

The Otun Olubadan who stressed that it is only God that can determine who becomes Olubadan had refused to take the beaded crown like his then-other High Chiefs when former Oyo State Governor, late Abiola Ajimobi proposed it during his administration, and even when it was formalized through a gazette by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Senator Ladoja hinted that whenever Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin chose for him to receive the crown, he would appear before him.
