The Ogun State government has announced Saturday 16th November, 2024 as date for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, Mr Babatunde Osibodu made this known in a statement titled “Notice of Year 2024 Local Government Elections in 0gun State and dated today, Tuesday, August 6th, 2024.
Mr Osibodu emphasized that the notice, in accordance with Section 10 (1) of the Ogun State Electoral Law 2007, was to inform the general populace that elections for the positions of Chairmen of the 20 Local Governments and Councilors of the 236 Wards of Ogun State of Nigeria would take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
He advised prospective candidates to obtain Nomination Forms for the Council Elections at the State Independent Electoral Commission OGSIEC, Headquarters, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, not later than Tuesday, 22nd October, 2024, while completed forms must be submitted by Friday, 1st November, 2024.
Mr Osibodu encouraged intending candidates, political parties and interested stakeholders to access the Guidelines for Local Government Elections issued by this Commission, available at the Abeokuta Headquarters of the Commission as well as the offices of Electoral officers in the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
The OGSIEC Chairman also solicited the support and cooperation of all stakeholders towards ensuring the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections in Ogun State.
