Oyo state government wants all warring factions in the Oyo zone of the state to stop fanning the ember of communal clashes and discord over age-long land disputes in the communities.

The acting Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal appealed during an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to broker peace between traditional rulers, Local Government Chairmen and community leaders in Afijio, Oyo East and West Local Government Areas over an age-long land dispute.

He maintained that the state government would not tolerate any group attempting to threaten the relative peace and security being experienced in the state.

The acting governor urged the traditional rulers to work with the government to tackle banditry, kidnapping and illegal mining in their domain rather than promoting violence due to land disputes.

Chief Lawal also directed all parties involved in land disputes within the Oyo zone to file various previous judgements, reports from various commissions of enquiries and various legal documents to the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs within two weeks, for necessary legal recommendations in the interest of peace by the state government.

The commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, Demola Ojo told journalists that the meeting was called to forestall instances of malicious destructions of properties and any act of break-down of law and order within some communities due in to issues of land disputes within Oyo zone.
