Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, Ibadan, State Coordinator, Mrs Oluropo Oke, has called on young authors and upcoming artists not to be discouraged by the alarming rate piracy has assumed.
Mrs Oke stated this at an anti-piracy mobilization awareness campaign held in Ibadan.
She said the act of stealing intellectual property robs the author, musician and publishers of their royalties thereby affecting the nation’s economy.
The NCC state Coordinator noted that stiffer penalties await intellectual property thieves.
The awareness campaign took the team to some bookshops in Ibadan located around the University of Ibadan, Dugbe, Iwo Road, Gbagi and Beere where pirated books were seized and shops sealed.
