Wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has described the women petty traders as the heart of the nation’s economy.

Senator Tinubu stated this in a message to the disbursement of a one billion, eight hundred and fifty million naira grant for 37,000 petty traders nationwide, to support their businesses.

Senator Tinubu represented by the Wife of Osun State Governor, Chief Titilola Adeleke, explained that, under the empowerment programme, a fifty thousand naira grant each, was provided for a thousand pre-selected women per state.

This is to assist them in developing their businesses, creating more jobs, and contributing more robustly to the growth of the nation’s economy.

She said, “The women petty traders are the unsung heroes of economic growth whose importance to nation and family building cannot be undermined”.

While commending the courage and resilience of women in putting food on the table for their families, Senator Tinubu stressed that she was aware of the challenges militating against Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs.

Mrs Tinubu urged the women to continue to unite and build a Nigeria where every woman had the opportunity to succeed towards national prosperity.

In a goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Market Affairs, Mrs Grace Omotosho, represented by Mrs Obiremi and Iyaloja General, Chief Mrs Mary Oyebode, advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant and cooperate with the present administration towards its success.
