The Federal Government has officially launched the Ogun state chapter of Conversion Incentives Program of the Compressed Natural Gas initiative, CNG, in line with the efforts to promote environmentally friendly energy alternatives nationwide.

At the flag off ceremony in Abeokuta, the Chief Executive Officer and Programme Director, Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, P-CNGi, Mr Michael Oluwagbemi said the measure was aimed at allaying the effects of fuel subsidy removal, while promoting safer, cleaner and reliable transportation alternatives for Nigerians.

Mr. Oluwagbemi announced that the engagement of four new partners for the CNG initiative in Ogun State, bringing the total number of conversion centers to sixty in the country was a significant milestone in the programme’s expansion nationwide.

He emphasized the need for Nigerians to embrace the CNG initiative as a vital step towards reducing dependence on imported fuels and promoting sustainable economic future.

Also,The Special Adviser on Energy in Ogun state, Mr Jide Onakoya who described the initiative as a game changer for the State, maintained that the new energy source would have a great impact on public health, particularly through the expected reduction in the emissions from petroleum products and the attendant improvements on the overall well-being of residents.
