Osun State House of Assembly is set to review the activities of Osun State Security Network and Amotekun Corps to further strengthen the Operations of the Agency, in the interest of Residents of the State.
The Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola made this known in the Private Member Bill titled: Osun State Security Network and Amotekun Corps Amendment no 1 bill 2024, during a Plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Osogbo.
During the Proceedings as Presided by The Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun noted that it is imperative to review the activities of the Osun State Security and Amotekun Network Corps in the State for better Operation.
Prince Egbedun stressed that the amendment aims to review the tenure of the Chairman and other members of the agency aside from the Secretary, from part-time to full-time to further strengthen the operations of the agency given the current security situation which is not peculiar to Osun State alone.
Prince Egbedun “The amendment further states to functions of the security network to include investigations, prosecution and fighting related crimes which may include kidnapping, robbery, rape and so on to compliment the efforts of the agency”.
“The amendment also seeks to decentralize the power of the Corps Commander which would pave the way for the creation of the office of the Deputy Corps Commander and Operation Commander to assist and compliment the efforts of the Corps Commandant in tackling insecurity in the state” the Speaker states further.
The Speaker noted that the amendment to the bill would further strengthen the Corps to investigate and prosecute criminals also.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers dissolved into the Committee of Whole for further consideration of Osun State Senior Secondary Education Board Establishment Bill 2024.
