Osun State Government has confirmed a fresh case of monkeypox in Ilesa West Local Government Area of the state.

The Emergency Response Team stated this during a meeting of the Monkeypox Emergency Operations Center, EOC, held at the Ministry of Health in Osogbo.

The team who said the latest confirmed monkeypox virus is on a 25-year-old lady noted that the patient’s condition had greatly improved.

They promised to ensure contact tracing and embark on public enlightenment on the preventive measures against the new variant.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Health, Mr Jola Akintola urged residents not to panic following the incidence of the second case of the virus which occurred on 19th August and assured the public that the state government is actively managing the situation.

The state Commissioner for Health, Mr Jola Akinola, “I don’t entertain any fear whatsoever. COVID-19 came we fought it successfully, therefore monkeypox virus would not be different”.

As part of efforts to prevent the spread of the virus, Mr Akintola explained that the state government has activated its emergency response system 

Recall that, the first case of the virus was recorded in March this year in Ilesa West Local Government.
