No doubt, various challenges pose a threat to effective service delivery from government agencies and parastatals.

However, in a bid to overcome these challenges, Service Compact, SERVICOM, in collaboration with the House of Representatives committee on Inter-governmental affairs has organised a 3-day National conference in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, with the theme: “Promoting Excellent Service Delivery in the Public Sector”.

The Conference had participants drawn from various Ministries Departments and Agencies, MDAs, as well as, other stakeholders in the service delivery sectors across the country. 

In her address of welcome, National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli said the conference was predicated on the continuous drive towards attaining the collective dream of a better Nigeria.

Mrs Akajemeli noted that the conference also aimed at entrenching a culture of Excellence in Nigeria’s Public Sector, hence the need to engage Heads of MDAs and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving public sector performance. 

“This epoch-making event demonstrates our determined stance to entrench a culture of Excellence in Nigeria’s Public Sector and seeks to engage Heads of government MDAs, Senior Management, Directors of Reforms, Nodal Officers, Front line Managers, and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving public sector performance.”

“It would also accord us the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with regards to building leadership skills and commitment that would enhance employee engagement and productivity in our various MDAs.”

“Part of the set objectives of this conference is to create a positive organizational culture, set clear expectations and hold employees accountable in their various service windows, by providing the support systems that would in turn produce effective communication and feedback for leaders to help ensure that their agencies are providing citizens with excellent and effective services in the public sector.”

Delivering his keynote address, the Chairman of, the House of Representatives Committee on Inter-governmental Affairs, Chief Canice Nwachukwu, who was represented by the Committee’s Deputy Chairman, Mr Ime Okon, urged the participants to use the conference as an opportunity to drive positive change, innovation and raise the bar of excellence in public service delivery in the Country.

In a goodwill message, Special Assistant to the President on Monitoring and Delivering Youth Initiatives, Ms Titilope Gbadamosi said, service delivery was one of the major areas the President Bola Tinubu-led administration was working towards to achieve its Renewed Hope Agenda.

“If you look at the eighth priority areas of Mr President, you find improved governance for excellent service delivery and this is very much in line with what the President wants for the country. Service Delivery is one of the major areas that the government is looking in to improve on and having this conference is one of the ways to make sure that we align with the presidential priority areas.”

Delivering a Paper on Excellence in Public Service Delivery and lessons from other countries, a Management consultant, Mr Francis Binuyo noted that, to ensure good governance, the country’s environment must be fair and transparent, while all stakeholders in the public sector need to account for their actions.

In another paper presentation, the Head of Curriculum, SERVICOM, Mr Clement Dogara stressed the need for result-based management through proper monitoring and evaluation of services provided by MDAs to guarantee accountability and effective service delivery in the public sector.
