The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State Command, Mr Idowu Ojelabi wants corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to support government efforts towards the development of sports at the grassroots level.

Mr Ojelabi who made the call during the closing ceremony of the Sports Week organised by the state command of the Corps in Abeokuta, said the contributions of various stakeholders were required to complement various programmes and initiatives of the government aimed at discovering hidden talents.

The NSCDC commandant who was represented by the Deputy Commandant, Head of Critical National Asset and Infrastructure, Mr Babatunde Adefila described sports as a veritable instrument that could be used to address Youth restiveness and create employment opportunities for the youths in the country.

“Every agency, every institution, private corporation, well-meaning personalities in society should get involved in sport and should contribute financially and in every other area into the development of sport, then if we can capture them the academy stage by the time they become professional where their names will be heard, then we begin to excel,” he said.

He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to continue to contribute to the development of sports in the state.

Also, the Officer in Charge of Sports, Mr Sunday Fadipe explained that the sports week was organised to further engage men and officers in sporting activities.

The final of the Football tournament was won by the mixed Football team comprising two male and three male players who defeated their male counterparts by four 4 goals to 3 on a penalty shoot-out after a 2 – 2 draw during regulation time.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards to a basketball coach, Temitope Olude for his efforts to further develop the game of slam and dunk game at the grassroots level.
