The Ogun State Government says it has revoked the provisional licenses of 20 private orphanages operating in the state for their failure to comply the relevant laws and operational guidelines.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ms Adijat Adeleye announced this in Abeokuta, at a meeting with private orphanage operators in the state.

The commissioner accused the sanctioned private orphanage owners of engaging in practices that were detrimental to the well-being and safety of vulnerable children in their care, emphasizing that the state would not tolerate illegal practices such as unauthorized adoptions, child trafficking and exploitation or abuse of children under the care of orphanage facilities.

She advised the operators to discharge their duties of offering humanitarian services with compassion and show commitment to the task of nurturing the vulnerable children without compromising their safety.

The Commissioner reiterated that the present administration was committed to safeguarding the children’s welfare, warning that anyone found to be negligent in the sector would be prosecuted.
