The alleged kidnap and murder of a 16-year-old girl, Habeebah Akinsanya in the Mile 6 area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital have thrown the residents into mourning as they appealed for more security presence in the rural community.

There are conflicting reports surrounding the discovery of the mutilated corpse of the teenager with some residents, claiming she was lured into the bush by a labourer working for her father, under the pretext of taking the victim to her mother at their cassava farm.

Others who lamented the tragic incident also alleged that unknown kidnappers had abducted and killed the girl, after making the father cough out one million naira ransom.

Some of those who spoke with Radio Nigeria also claimed that the labourer was reportedly sighted while rushing out of the forest where the mutilated corpse of Habeebah was discovered two days later with her clothes pulled down and the hands and legs tied while signs of strangulation were also said to be evident on her body.

The residents expressed the need for more security presence to protect their lives and property, saying that Habeebah was probably targeted because she was operating a Point of Sale, POS, and services at his brother’s shop in the area.

Recounting the efforts to rescue his daughter, the victim’s father, Mr Aremu Akinsanya, a staff of the state-owned security outfit, the So Safe Corps also said the body was discovered after an extensive search of the forest and POS device was found beside his daughter’s body.

Although the police were yet to make any official statement about the incident, the spokesperson of the So Safe Corps, Mr Moruf Yusuf told Radio Nigeria that the outfit was working with the Kemta Divisional Police Office and other relevant security agencies to investigate the matter.
