Two teenagers have been reportedly killed, while two others survived a boat mishap in their attempts to ferry firewood from Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State into the Republic of Benin for sale.

Witnesses claimed that the teenagers took the boat on a journey to the neighbouring country without the consent of the ferry owner, when one of them fell into the water after they encountered a turbulent wave, causing the second person who tried to rescue him to also drown.

The only one among them who could swim very well was reported to have rescued another while two of them were swept away and the bodies were later recovered at the coast of the Lagoon emptying into Sakou, few meters away from Gbodojego, in the Republic of Benin.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola said that the victims, identified as Ahohe Seido and Dogbon, alongside the survivors, Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh, sailed from a river in Ijofin, Ipokia Local Government Area of the State.

The PPRO maintained that investigations were ongoing to clarify the specifics of the boat accident and validate the statements made by the two survivors.

In the same vein, The PPRO also disclosed that the police was investigating the death of a 26 year old man, Mr Monday Ederemo who allegedly died after consuming herbal concoctions, bought from a 28 year old traditional healer, Mr Ifakunle Olanrewaju.

She explained that the deceased was reported to have travelled from his home at Ijebu Ode to another village in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state in search of herbal remedies to cure discomforting pain in his right leg, but was found dead the following morning after he returned home.

The police spokesperson said the suspect was taken into custody while the remains of the deceased had been transferred to the mortuary at General Hospital, Owode Egba, for an autopsy.
