Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the State Power Sector Law 2024, to allow for improved electricity generation, transmission and distribution, towards addressing the energy consumption challenge confronting the people and business owners in the State.

The passage of the bill followed the presentation of the report and subsequent motion for adoption, moved by the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi, seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye and supported by other members at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, mr Oludaisi Elemide.

The House proceeded to read through and adopted every clause of the Bill, before the motion for the third reading, moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sheriff, it was equally seconded by Mr Adeleye and supported by all members through their unanimous voice vote.

The Clerk of the Assembly, mr Sakiru Adebakin thereafter took the third reading of the bill before the Speaker’s directive that a clean copy of the document should be transmitted to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

Also,  the House of Assembly has approved the State Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2025 – 2027, earlier presented by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The approval of the financial framework by the lawmakers followed the presentation of a report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation by the Vice Chairman, Mr Wahab Haruna, who also moved the motion for its adoption to advance the process for its final passage.

The  process also included the reading and adoption of the MTEF report, detailing the sectoral allocations, comprising personnel, overhead and capital expenditures of different sectors of the State’s economy from year 2025 to 2027.

The Speaker, Mr Elemide later directed the Clerk of the House to convey the House Resolution to the concerned authorities including the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, mr Olaolu Olabimtan for the preparation of the State’s Year 2025 Budget.

The lawmakers had earlier engaged the Commissioner for  Budget and Planning, Mr Olabimtan on the need for more budgetary allocation to education and agriculture sectors with a view to improving food security through mechanized farming. 

They emphasized the need for increased investment in mechanized farming and rural development, while improving on the funding of key sectors that would contribute to the ease of doing business.

Responding, Mr Olabimtan explained that adequate efforts were being made to fund the sectors, including infrastructure, transportation, security and other statewide intervention programmes.
