Ogun State beneficiaries of the free installation of the Compressed Natural Gas, CNG on commercial vehicles under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas initiative, Pi – CNG, have expressed enthusiasm that the move will offer great relief to both the transport operators and the passengers.
They made the call at the CNG conversion centres at Agbeloba and Olorunsogo, Abiola Way in Abeokuta where a total number of 110 conversion kits, alongside 90 units of 65 litres and 20 units of 75 litres CNG cylinders were being installed on certified commercial vehicles.
The State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Mr Ismail Mustafa – Yaro, who spoke through a union leader Mr Ahmed Bankole called for the sustenance of the initiative, noting that it would make transportation affordable for the people while boosting the operators profit margin.
Also, a Director in the State Ministry of Transport, Mr Adetimehin Olugboyega explained that a converted vehicle, adequately tested and fitted with 75 -liters CNG filled cylinder could cover 150 kilometres, marking a reduction in fuel consumption and subsequently the transportation fare, as envisaged by the federal government following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Speaking on the viability and economic advantages of CNG transportation system, Operations Manager of Pi -CNG technical partner, the Nigerian Gas and Transport Solution Limited, Mr Ali Manager emphasized that CNG complied transportation system remained the best for Nigerian economy presently.
Spokesperson of the conversion partners, Mr Toyosi Oluwasesan who confirmed receipt of 50 CNG conversion kits for Olorunsogo Abiola Way Centre, as well as the training of 3 automobile technicians to handle the process, gave the assurance that adequate measures had been in place to ensure the success of the project.
