The Centre for Media and Society, in collaboration with the International Press Center with support from EU SDGN, has engaged media stakeholders on the need to raise more awareness on voter education and inclusion, among others, towards the Ondo off-cycle election.
The Executive Director, of CEMESO, Dr Akin Akingbulu raised this poser at a media engagement towards the Ondo governorship election held in Akure
Dr. Akingbulu mentioned that media are critical stakeholders in influencing the voters positively through correcting information disorder, Enlightenment, and Engagement of all stakeholders
Also speaking, The Executive Director International Press Centre, Dr Lanre Arogundade charged media practitioners to take the conversation to the people through their platforms to inform, educate, and encourage them on the benefits of their active participation in the electoral process
Speaking in the context of the Ondo governorship election since the creation of the state, the Facilitator and the Retired Deputy Director of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Mr Tunde Abiodun emphasized the need for media to also engage the people based on language differences to adequately communicate their messages in the languages of the people
Mr Abiodun thought that media practitioners needed to gear up efforts to engage critical stakeholders like INEC, Security, Eligible Voters, and minority groups for inclusive programming and reporting.
He charged the media organizations in the state to also abide by the ethics of the profession order not to get against the election guidelines as stipulated by the monitoring government agencies .
Some of the participants appreciated the organiser for the knowledge sharing and empowerment towards the November 16th Governorship Election.
