Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, has announced new adjustments to the timeline for the state’s local government elections with a shift in the deadline for party primaries from Monday 16th to Thursday, 19th September 2024.
In a statement in Abeokuta, the Chairman of the OGSIEC, Mr Babatunde Osibodu attributed the extension to the concerns raised by political parties, that the public holiday commemorating Eid El Maulud would disrupt their planned primaries, necessitating the need to slightly adjust the election timetable.
Mr Osibodu also announced an extension in the collection schedule for Personal Data Forms CF001 and CF002 from Friday, 20th to Monday, 23rd September 2024 as well as a reduction in the administrative charges for political parties fielding candidates in the council elections.
He said the Chairmanship candidate’s fee was slashed from 250,000 to 200,000 naira, while 100,000 naira was fixed for male Councillorship candidates, and 50,000 naira would be paid for each female Councillorship candidate.
He emphasized that the measures were aimed at easing the pressure on political parties and encouraging broader participation in the elections, pointing out that all other activities in the timetable for the local government elections, scheduled for Saturday, 16th November 2024 remained valid.
