Ogun State Muslim Council, OMC under the leadership of Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona has called on the governments and the general public to take proactive measures to prevent and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
In an Eid-ul Mawlid message, signed by the Secretary General of the Council, Kamaldeen Akintunde, the Council stressed the need for Nigerians to abide by environmental laws and safety practices that could safeguard lives and property.
The Council urged Nigerians to always comply with alerts and warnings by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMET on weather and climate forecasts as a way of preventing and reducing the impact of Natural disasters, emphasizing the importance of enforcing relevant laws and regulations towards protecting citizens against natural disasters.
While calling on Muslims across Ogun State and Nigeria to use the occasion of Eid-ul Mawlid to show solidarity with the people and government of Borno State over the recent devastating floods, the OMC equally extended its sympathies to the governments and people of Sokoto, Bayelsa, and other states that have experienced similar disasters.
On the current economic hardship, Ogun State Muslim Council acknowledged the efforts of the government in alleviating the sufferings of the people and urged both the federal and state governments to accelerate their plans to revamp the economy.
The Council also called for immediate and pragmatic steps to reduce the astronomical increase in the prices of food and essential commodities.
