Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed the commitment of Southern Nigerian governors to work closely with traditional rulers to promote peace, unity, and development in the region. He made this statement while receiving members of the Technical Committee of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council during their courtesy visit to his office in Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of traditional rulers as custodians of the region’s cultural heritage, while recognizing their efforts in promoting peace and collaboration among southern states, he noted the key role they play in preserving traditions and fostering social cohesion.

He also highlighted the challenges facing the southern states, such as security, infrastructure, youth unemployment, and economic development, while commending President Bola Tinubu for initiatives like the Lagos-Calabar Coastline road project, which is expected to drive growth in the region.

Speaking earlier, King Jaja of Opobo, Dr Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Co-Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council, noted that the council’s mission is to unify the southern region and work for the betterment of the nation.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between traditional rulers and governors to further peace and development.

Also responding, the Chairman of Ogun state Council of Obas and the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, reiterated the need for a collective approach to address the challenges facing the region, including culture promotion and social development.

Other members of the Technical Committee that visited the governor are; the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola; the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Suleiman Bamgbade; the Elegusi of Ikate, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegusi; Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo; Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal; and the Elemuren of Emuren, Oba Adesegun Alowonle.
