The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has urged Nigerians to beware of fake drugs, which are among the cause of untimely death in the country. 

Director for the Southwest zone and also coordinating director for the six geopolitical Zone of Nigeria Mrs Roseline  Ajayi gave the advice in Ibadan during a workshop to sensitise stakeholders and the general public on how to identify fake drugs 

While enumerating some regulatory measures put in place to curtail the circulation of fake drugs in the country, Mrs Ajayi explained that NAFDAC had adopted a 5 plus 5 strategy which included proper documentation, registration and laboratory evaluation of both imported and locally made products,  antibiotics as well as sachets water.

Mrs Ajayi noted that the menace of fake drugs must be nipped in the bud as the trend posed big treat to the life of an average Nigeria.

In his submission, Chairman, Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Mr Gbadamosi Adebayo advised people to cultivate the habit of checking NAFDAC website, drug registration number, expiration dates, correct spelling of the drugs and patronise licensed sources and centers

While presenting a research conducted on the negative effect of consumers exposure to substandard and falsified medications in the country, a pharmacist Mrs Sayo Akinrinade encouraged the people not to patronise unauthorized sellers so as not to damage their body’s sensitive organs
