An Ado Ekiti High Court has sentenced two persons to death by hanging for armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.
They are Adewa Sunday and Adedayo Amos, who robbed one Mrs Abosede Oyeyemi Malomo at Ilogbo Ekiti in Ido /Osi Local Government Area of the state on June 4, 2015.
They robbed the victim with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons with which they inflicted injuries on her.
The Chief Judge of Ekiti state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, in his judgment found the accused persons guilty of armed robbery and sentenced them to death by hanging to face the supreme punishment for the offence.
The accused persons faced two counts bordering on robbery and illegal possession of firearms in the case which began in March 2015.
The victim was said to be reading at night when the accused broke into her apartment and robbed her at gunpoint.
One of the convicts was said to have mistakenly called the real name of his colleague, which served as a lead for the police to carry out their investigations.
During the trial , the Prosecuting counsel , Gbemiga Adaramola from the Ministry of Justice , called two witnesses and also tendered a cut to size pistol , iPad and the victim ’ s statement on oath , as exhibits but lawyer to the defendants , Adeyinka Opaleke , did not call any witness.
