The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state, declaring PDP’s David Ombugadu as the winner.

The Federal Government would work with State governors to maximize the potential of mineral resources for the socioeconomic development of the country.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake stated this when the governor of Nasarawa state, Alhaji Abdullahi Sule paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

According to a statement by the Deputy Director of information, Mr. Alaba Balogun, the ministry is determined and committed to harness the nation’s mineral resources.

He explained that under the renewed hope administration, Nasarawa State and other states with mineral resources will soon experience rapid development that will raise the living standards of the population.

The minister observed that Nasarawa state in Nigeria was endowed with petroleum resources and underlined the need to coordinate and synergize the dynamics surrounding mineral exploration and exploitation in the sector.

The minister  expressed gratitude to the Nasarawa State governor  for the visit stressing that the importance of the collaboration that is expected between the federal and states government to develop the nation’s minerals sector.

The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected notorious kidnapper, Shuaibu Mohammed, also known as Chiyawa, who had been involved in several kidnapping cases in the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made the disclosure at the command’s headquarters in Lafia on Thursday while parading 23 other suspects who were arrested for various crimes across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

He commended the police officers attached to the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the command, led by SP Lapshak Lenka, for working tirelessly to arrest the suspected kidnap kingpin.

While reiterating the command’s commitment to eradicating crime in the 13 LGAs, Nansel said the police command would not hesitate to arrest anyone who disturbs the peace of other residents of the state.

He said, “On 19/4/2023 at about 5 pm, and based on a tip-off, operatives of the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit arrested a kidnap kingpin named Shuaibu Mohammed AKA Chiyawa ‘M’ of Kadarko, Giza Development Area.

“The suspect who investigation has shown to be the gang leader of a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing Dadere, Mararaba Akunza, Lafia, Agyaragu, Kadarko, and environs, has been on the wanted list of the Command for various cases of kidnapping and has been evading arrest before nemesis caught up with him.”

Similarly, the state police command also paraded two suspected criminals who had been involved in issues relating to kidnapping and armed robbery in the Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking on the arrest of the suspects, the Police PPRO said, “Recently, while acting based on credible intelligence, one Adamu Gagare Sule ‘M’ 25years and Umar Idris 20years, who have been on the wanted list of the command for offences of kidnapping were arrested at Kiguna Village, Lafia East Development area by operatives of the command.

“Upon Interrogation, the suspects confessed to having kidnapped four people and took them to a forest reserve in Qua’anpan LGA of Plateau State and came to town to buy food for the victims held captive before luck ran out of them.

“Also, the suspects admitted to have engaged in various acts of kidnapping and armed robbery at Lafia East, Awe, and Jenkwe Development area of Obi LGA.”

While warning all criminal elements to leave the state without further delay, DSP Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, had directed that the suspects be charged to court at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia.

A former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado was last night kidnapped in his country home, Rinza village in the Wamba local government area of the state.

Wado was said to be abducted a few minutes before midnight on Thursday when the kidnappers gained entrance to the compound through the fence, broke his wife’s window and whisked the professor to an unknown destination.

According to the family source, Professor Onje Gye Wado had survived kidnapping attempts three times when one of his cousins was killed without succeeding.

“The wife came in for Easter and they broke into the house through her widow and took her husband away. They called around 4 am today Friday and threatened to kill him, without mentioning any amount” the family source said.

Prof Onje Gye-Wado, served under the administration of the current National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, as Deputy Governor between 1999 and 2003.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed the abduction of the former Deputy Governor with an assurance by the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba that Prof. Onje Gye-Wado would be rescued as the Command intensifies search and rescue operations.

“Information received by the command indicated that on 7/4/2023 at about 12:30 am, unknown gunmen invaded Gwagi village in Wamba LGA, broke into the residence of one Prof. Onje Gye-wado and abducted him to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of the information, Police operatives attached to Wamba Division swiftly moved to the scene, but the abductors had fled with the victim before the police arrival”, the police said

According to a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP, Ramham Nansel, the Commissioner has called on anyone with useful information that will lead to the rescue of the former Deputy Governor to contact the following telephone numbers: 09115629178, 09067877096, 08112692680 and 08104441179.

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it has arrested the suspected killers of an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Paul Anwana.

The late Anwana was killed on April 18, 2022, when the suspected criminals, who claimed to be commercial motorcyclists, stormed his residence in the Karu Local Government Area of the state and used several weapons on him until he died.

Parading the suspects on Thursday in Lafia, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi, explained that the suspects also planned setting ablaze the residence of the victim but they were arrested by police officers attached to the anti-cultism unit of the command before being able to execute the plan.

He said “A distress call was received that commercial motorcyclists were attacking a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency personnel, who was identified as Paul Okon Anwana, and they were about to set his residence ablaze.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer New Karu Division, Anti-cultism unit and Crack team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations swiftly mobilised to the scene where the victim was found in the pool of his blood.

“He was rushed to the hospital by the Police where the doctor confirmed him dead.

“Reacting to the ugly development, a manhunt for the perpetrators of the act was launched. Consequently, via painstaking investigation, 21 suspects who actively participated in the lynching of the victim to death were arrested”.

CP Soyemi mentioned the names of the suspects to include: Mansur Ishaq, 30, Adamu Ado, 22, Kamala Abdulrahaman, 15, Murtala Salisu, 15, Salisu Lawal, 37, Anas Ibrahim, 19, Imrana Ibrahim, 26, Zayanu Usman, 35, Abdulahi Lawal, 22, among others.

He noted that stones, metals, and other hard objects used in the commission of the offence were recovered as exhibits, adding that the suspects have made useful statements that would help to conduct a proper Investigation into the matter.

While parading other suspects arrested for various crimes across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, CP Soyemi warned criminal elements to desist from terrorising the state and be good citizens as the police would not fail to arrest and prosecute anyone found wanting.
