Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of some suspected armed thugs allegedly on their way to Ekiti from Ibadan.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were being transported with five 18-passenger buses and were driving along Ijebu- Ijesa-Ita Ore road, when they were intercepted and arrested at about 3 in the morning, by soldiers.

The suspects were arrested at Ita Ore, Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State, by military men.

Efon Alaaye shares a border with Ijebu Ijesa town in Oriade Local Government area of Osun State.

Mr Abutu said suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons like locally made pistols, cudgels, and cutlasses.

The police spokesman assured that the command’s detectives would do a thorough investigation about the incident and prosecute those involved.

Ten persons have been arrested in connection with the bloody clash between rival cult group in Ikere Ekiti which claimed six lives.

Spokesperson for the Ekiti state police command, Mr Sunday Abutu made this known to Radio Nigeria in Ado Ekiti.

Mr Abutu said the arrest would be a continuous one, as more policemen, the military and officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence corps have been deployed to the town to restore peace to the area.

He said that bodies of the six persons killed during the cult clash had been deposited in the morgue, and urged the people of Ikere Ekiti to remain calm.

The command’s image maker also implored them to give useful information to security operatives on hideouts of those who carried out the violent attack.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the incident started on Saturday’s night when a suspected cultist was killed by a rival group which made his group to engage in a reprisal attack and shot dead five persons alleged to be cultists.
