Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has directed the State Ministry of Environment to mobilize its personnel and equipment to areas affected by the recent flooding in the state.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Chris Onogba who stated this during a clean-up exercise at the Anwai River in Asaba, noted in response to the directive, the ministry has deployed swamp boogies and other heavy tools to clean-up water channels in parts of the state.

Mr. Onogba also indicated the exercise was in response to complaints by residents affected by the flooding, thus the effort to address the situation.

The Environment Commissioner urged residents and business owners who live close to the Anwai River to exercise patience as the ongoing process was geared towards alleviating their suffering.

He added that the state government has been proactive in mitigating the effects of natural disasters, while calling for support by the citizenry for its plans to minimize the loss of lives and properties in the event of flooding.
