Suspected smugglers have attacked an anti-smuggling joint task force of the Nigerian Army and the Customs Service in Ogun State.

The attack by the suspected smugglers according to the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun One Command, Mr. Abdullahi Maiwada occurred at Obada-Idiemi in the Imeko-Afon Local Government area of the state.

He explained that the joint patrol team was evacuating a stockpile of smuggled rice and other contrabands from the hideout of the smugglers when the team was attacked.

Mr. Maiwada hinted that one of the youths assisting the team in the evacuation was hit by a stray bullet during the gun battle as two vehicles attached to the joint patrol team were also riddled with bullets 

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun One Customs Command said the hoodlums started shooting at the joint task force when they were about evacuating the smuggled goods from the hideouts.

He said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the attack, noting that the injured victim was responding to treatments.
