Eight inmates of the old Abeokuta custodial formation of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS have regained their freedom.

The Ogun state controller of the service, Mr Abolade Benson who made this known to Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta said the gesture was part of the Federal Government’s measures to decongest the prisons in the face of COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Benson explained that the inmates within the range of 49 and 70 had initially been condemned to death before their convictions were commuted to life jail, until they regained freedom.

The state controller of NCS pointed out that  the beneficiaries  of Federal Government’s  amnesty  who had been  trained  on various  vacations  had displayed  good character and positive  orientation  to enable them to be good citizens
