Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has announced plans by the government to sanction any resident moving around the state without wearing face masks, beginning from Friday, 1st May 2020.

Governor Abiodun who announced this at Iperu-Remo while briefing newsmen on the activities of the state government to further curb the spread of COVID-19, said violators would be arrested and isolated for 14 days before been made to undertake community services

The Ogun helmsman, who explained that his administration would distribute face masks to vulnerable groups across the state, also announced Monday, Wednesday and Friday as lockdown relaxation window for next week, between 7am and 2pm each day.

The Governor maintained that the increase in the number of COVID19 cases in the state was as a result of an increased pace of testing, stressing that efforts would be geared towards detecting and treating people who were already infected with the virus.

He explained that establishment of drive through testing centres across the state, particularly in border communities in Ado Odo Ota, Ifo and Owode local government areas of the state was to curb community transmission of the pandemic.

Governor Abiodun explained that health workers in the state had been insured, adding that his administration was taking steps to review their allowances to further encourage and motivate them for better performance.
