Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has lauded the contributions of the College of Medicine, Ibadan in the medical fields, saying its products are well known globally for their outstanding performances.

Governor Makinde made the commendation shortly after he commissioned some projects at the college within the premises of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, to mark its 40th year’s anniversary.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, urged the Provost and management to collaborate with government to further develop the college.

Akande said it was about time for Government to institute Health Tax Fund as obtainable in the Education Sector to assist medical institutions.

In a remark, Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu-Olayinka called for the support of the state government in the areas of

Medical outreach Stations in order to take medical delivery to rural areas.

Earlier, the College provost, Professor Olopade-Olaopa, said the whole idea of the 40th anniversary projects was to make sure that the management had something to showcase that the College of Medicine is an integral part of the University of Ibadan.

He appreciated the contributions of the Oyo State Government for its supports in the development of the college, adding the state government was collaborating closely on COVID-19 backup.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Idowu Olayinka, said he was very proud of the College of Medicine, being one of the institution’s flagship programme.

The projects are Biorepository and Central Laboratory, N.O Idowu Clinical Drug and Toxicology Unit, Computer and E-learning Training Centre, Medical School History Park and Renovated College buildings.
