The Federal Government has announced some lifelines for the broadcast industry as ways of cushioning the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja.

Alhaji Mohammed said the industry has been particularly hard-hit due to falling revenues occasioned by the dwindling adverts and sponsored programs, in the wake of the pandemic.

He said the lifelines included 60 per cent debt forgiveness for all debtor broadcast stations in the country.

Alhaji Mohammed said the debt forgiveness shall apply to functional licensed Terrestrial Radio and Television stations only.

He also said the debt forgiveness and discount shall not apply to pay TV service operators in Nigeria.
