All is now set for today’s local government elections in Ondo State with the distribution of sensitive materials to all the 18 council areas in the state.

7000 Ad-hoc staff and 7000 security personnel had been deployed to make the election hitch free.

Goverment however says restriction of movement during the exercise will not affect school children writing Command, WASSCE examinations and workers on essential duties.

There had been reported pockets of clashes between party supporters in both Idanre and Ondo towns among APC, SDP and ADC members which led to the SDP Chairman in Idanre Local Government, Mr Akinde Adelanke announcing the withdrawal of the party’s participation from the councils Election.

In a reaction, the state Electoral commission, ODIEC however told Radio Nigeria it had not been formally informed of SDP’s withdrawal. 

ODIEC commissioner in charge of media and publicity, Mr Rotimi Olorunfemi said the commission was going ahead with the conduct of the councils Election as scheduled today.

Ten political parties are confirmed to be participating in the election while the main opposition party PDP had declared nonparticipation in the exercise.

Meanwhile the State High Court sitting in Akure yesterday struck out the interlocutory injunction filed by some 15 political parties seeking to stop the conduct of the councils election.

Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye refused the application on the grounds that it would breach Section 58 of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC laws.
