The Ekiti State Government has taken step to revisit the creation of Local Council Development Areas with the inauguration of 13 man Committee to critically examine and recommend their viability and suitability.

At the inauguration in Ado Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi said the move was to bring government nearer to the people and to ensure grassroots development.

He noted that agitations for the creation of new LCDAs was part of demands of stakeholders during his recent consultative meetings across communities in the State hence the need to revisit the matter.

The Governor pointed out that the creation of the LCDAs was in demonstration of his administration’s commitment to justice, fair-play and response to the yearnings of the people for equal representation at all levels of government.

Governor Fayemi charged members of the committee to approach their assignment with courage and advice government on necessary administrative procedures to ensure equitable revenue allocation for the sustainability of the new LCDA’s.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Segun Oluwole promised that members would effectively deliver on their mandate and terms of reference.

The committee which has three months to deliver on its mandate is expected to review the Local Government Development Council Laws, Ekiti state 2014 and make recommendations on its relevance in view of current realities in Ekiti state.
