Properties worth millions of naira were this afternoon razed by fire when a fuel-laden tanker exploded after it slipped off the road and fell into a ditch at Alesinloye junction, Ibadan.

According to witnesses, the driver of the tanker, which was coming from NNPC Depot at Apata, did not heed to advice of other road users, who warned him about the pot holes ahead of him.

The driver, who was said to have sustained various degrees of injuries, was later taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Furniture shops, plastic warehouse and shops where plumbing materials were being sold were completely razed by the inferno.

Fire fighters from Oyo State Fire Service and Federal Fire Service are currently battling to quench the raging fire and also prevent it from burning the two filling stations near the scene of the accident.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that the situation has resulted into diversion of motorists to other alternative routes from the always busy mile 110-Alesinloye road
