A traditional ruler, the Ogiyan of Ejigboland, Oba Oyeyode Oyesosin has advocated the need to create more universities of Agriculture to ensure food security across the country.

Oba Oyeyode Oyeyosin made the call while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Ejigbo, Osun state.

The monarch, who said agriculture remained the bed rock of any viable economy, said there was the need to focus more attention on the sector by creating more universities of Agriculture and upgrading some of the existing ones to University of Agriculture.

He said the nation was naturally endowed, hence the need to maximize its potentials through agriculture.

“I want universities to be upgraded to Agriculture universities. we need Agriculture, we need food, we can not depend on ourselves. Most of our universities should be turned into Agriculture universities so that enough food can be produced for the people” Oba Oyeyosin said.

Oba Oyeyosin, however, advocated establishment of Agricultural university in Ejigboland, saying the ancient town was an agrarian environment where agriculture would thrive.

“My intention before I got to the throne was to bring huge development to Ejigboland. All I want for my town is progress. We need banks, universities and other things that would bring more development”,he added.
