The Minister of Interior, Ọgbẹni Rauf Aregbesola says agitation for regional secession is a fruitless effort, hence the need to expand the scope of Nigeria’s democracy.

The Minister stated this in Ibadan during his investiture as Grand patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Southwest zone.

Ọgbẹni Aregbesola who is a two-term former governor of Osun State explained that the current challenges threatening national unity was not new and called for the need to leverage on the strength of diversity than divisibility.

He also stressed the need for adjustment in the nation’s political and economic structures to cater for new interests across board.

In a lecture entitled: The Nigerian Media in the Face of Pandemic, a veteran journalist, Chief Yinka Fabowale, scored the Nigerian media high for keeping decision makers on their toes as well as update on the infection and education on vaccines and cure during covid-19 pandemic despite their working conditions.

Chief Fabowale, urged media professionals not to let loose their guards in professionalism and objectivity.

Chairman on the occasion and the National Chairman, Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP and National Chairman of Action Alliance, AA, Alhaji Rufai Omoàjẹ́ called on the political class to invest more on the welfare and security of the citizenry.

Earlier in a welcome address, Vice President,. NUJ Southwest Zone, Mr Cosmos Oni said the investiture on the Interior Minister was based on his track records in leadership and governance.

The occasion was well attended by dignitaries from all walks of life including Heads of paramilitary Agencies, Aregbesola political family, past and serving members of National Assembly, Deputy Governor of Oyo State Engr. Rauf Olaniyan and former super Eagles Technical Adviser, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde.
