Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association, NAOWA, has donated foodstuffs, cash and clothes to widows of falling officers as well as member of the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA) in 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan.
The Wife of chief of Army staff who is also the National President of NAOWA, Mrs Fati Attahiru made the donation during her courtesy visit to the Headquarters, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Odogbo, Ibadan.
Mrs Attahiru said that husbands of the widows paid supreme price for the country and left their wives alone to take care of the children unexpectedly which made them the responsibility of the military.
She said that the children of the widows lookup to their mothers for their upkeep.
Mrs Attahiru said that the widows needed to be supported to shoulder the responsibilities of taking care of their children which was not an easy struggle.
She said that the donation given to the widows would go along way in alleviating their suffering and called for more support and assistance of widows of falling officers.
The NAOWA National president said the wives of falling officers go through alot of emotional stress which required counselling and solution,adding that this motivated her to emback on her mental health initiative to bring succor to the widows.
She further called on the widows to come up with ideas on ways they can be self-sufficient pledging to support them on the ideas.
The national president also performed bricklaying of the propose Skill Acquisition Centre of NAOWA 2 Division.
Other projects inaugurated included the recently completed Remodelling NAOWA Secretariat, three class rooms and play ground of NAOWA Crèche School as well as three bedrooms flat officers quarters
The national president commended NAOWA 2 Division for setting high standard, saying the proposed skill acquisition centre would empowered the widows to lean handiwork and be able to take care of their family.
In her remark, the Chairperson of NAOWA 2 Division, Mrs Joy Chibuisi, said the activities of NAOWA was basically charity base with the barrack community among others and they have made giant strides in its actualization.
Mrs Chibuisi said that one of the objectives of the skill acquisition centre was to cater for the wives of falling officers in order for them to be independent.
She said that the centre was to be completed within six months at the cost of N35 million and solicited assistance so as to be able to complete the project within the stipulated time frame.
