The Delta State Government says it has selected one thousand youths to be equipped with skills for self-employment and wealth creation.

The state Chief Job and Wealth Creation Officer, Professor Eric Eboh, made this known in Asaba, during an orientation and personal management course for participants.

Radio Nigeria’s Oghenero Eghweree reports that over five thousand youths have benefited from consecutive batches of the Delta State Job Creation scheme since inception in 2015.

Delta State job creation scheme entails the Skills Training Entrepreneurship Program, STEP, the Youth Agriculture and Entrepreneurs Program YAGEP, and the Graduate Employment Enhancement Program GEEP, intended to motivate and establish a generation of entrepreneurs in the state.

Professor Eboh hinted that the program was in its 6th circle, saying the current batch of one thousand youths would be trained in eight set skills including catering services, tiling and audio visuals amongst others, with a time-frame of four to eight months.

He noted the participants would undergo personal effectiveness training, occupational training and business management training.

Professor Eboh urged the youths to be disciplined and to observe the code of conduct in order to complete the compulsory phases of the program.

Some of the participants expressed their views on the empowerment initiative.

Six hundred STEP trainees and four hundred YAGEP apprentice are participating in the scheme.
