Addressing the participants at the end of the seven-day training exercise, the Commandant of the Osun NSCDC, Mr. Emmanuel Ocheja charged them to reflect on everything they have learnt in the performance of their duties.

Mr. Ocheja explained that due to the recent security challenge nationwide and an evolving new dimension in security matters, it became imperative to keep guards abreast of innovations and how to handle emerging threats.

The Osun NSCDC boss observed that private guards were often posted to sensitive areas, hence the need for them to be a step ahead of criminal elements.

He stressed that the duties of guards transcended opening and closing doors for visitors to offices, but importantly taking a critical security look at such visitors and alerting operatives of any suspicious movements.

Mr. Ocheja pointed out that security consciousness on early warning and early response signals for security providers was important to forestall crisis and nip it in the bud.

He called on owners of Private Guards Company not to over-stretch their guards, remunerate them well, noting that their welfare is proportional to their performance, productivity and efficiency.

In a remark, the chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, ALPSPN, Mrs. Omobola Odebode said the association was partnering with NSCDC to train guards at Civil Defence Colleges.

She added that once the proposal sailed through, would be guards would be expected to obtain training certificates before being enlisted.

Mrs. Odebode commended the Osun Command for organizing the training which she noted would raise the bar in private guard services in Nigeria.

Earlier, the NSCDC officer in charge of Private Guard Companies, Mr. Awofade Olufemi hinted that during the training, the participants were taken through beat management and patrol, physical security and security management among other drills.

Mr. Olufemi mentioned that over sixty participants from thirty private security companies registered for the training.

He maintained that the Corps would soon embark on the flushing out of quacks from the state as their activities were not only inimical to the state but to the country in general as it undermines national security and drains the economy of licensed private guard companies.
