Osun State Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme on Tuesday shut the gate of Government Secretariat, Abere to protest non-payment of their pensions.

The pensioners in their scores stormed the entrance of the secretariat with placards with several inscriptions; like “Gov Oyetola has paralysed Contributory Pension in Osun”, “No one is sponsoring us but hunger & thirst”, “Pay us now!”, and“Oto gee Ijoba Ipinle Osun”.

They chanted hunger songs, pleading with the state government to listen to their plight.

There was a heavy presence of security as the Osun State Deputy Governor, Mr. Benedict Alabi joined the protesters at the entrance of the secretariat.

The leader of the protesters, Comrade Micheal Adebayo while addressing the deputy governor, said nobody or party was bankrolling them against the government, rather hunger forced them into the street to embark on the protest.

Another leader of the protesters, Mr. Salami Bamidele explained that the amount of money being released monthly under the contributory pension scheme was very small compared to the population of the affected workers.

Responding, the Deputy Governor, Mr. Benedict Alabi called for calm and implored them to wait for the outcome of the meeting between the government and their leadership next Monday.
