Oyo state government has flagged off a mass covid 19 vaccination exercise for residence of the state.

The flag off ceremony held at Aleshinloye Market, Ibadan, was organized by the ministry of health in collaboration with Breakthrough Action sponsored by USAID.

Declaring the exercise opened, Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde said the present administration in the state would leverage on the mass covid 19 vaccination exercise to reach out to more members of the public.

Earlier in a welcome address, commissioner for health, Dr Olabode Ladipo who attributed the recent increase in covid 19 cases in Oyo state to the influx of people within and outside the country to the state due to the festive season, cautioned people against non compliance to covid 19 protocols.

Dr Ladipo said Oyo state have no record of expired covid 19 vaccine, noting that all vaccines would be administered before their expiration periods.

Also speaking, executive Secretary, Oyo state primary healthcare board, Dr Muideen Olatunde hinted that the fatality rate of the covid 19 infection cases in the state in recent past have drastically reduced as a result of increase in vaccination.

He said though the mass vaccination exercise commended on the seventeenth of last month, it was important to officially kick off the exercise for adequate awareness.

Oyo state Team lead, Breakthrough Action, Mrs Oluwatosin Afachung who explained that the exercise is to Accelerate covid 19 vaccination in the state, expressed displeasure over the number of people who failed to take their second dose of the vaccine after the first jab.

The exercise which had in attendance representatives of the Olubadan of Ibadan, market leaders, political appointees and health personnel afforded a large number of people the opportunity to take the covid 19 vaccines and the booster dose.
