The governments of Ogun and Oyo states have agreed to set up a high level joint security committee towards addressing security challenges around their boundary communities and interstate roads.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and his Oyo State counterpart, Mr Seyi Makinde made the decision at a joint security meeting held in Abeokuta.

According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and read by the Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for justice Professor Oyewo Oyelowo, the Governors also resolved that the membership of the joint border security taskforce would be drawn from various security agencies in the two states.

The communiqué highlighted the areas of collaboration between Ogun and Oyo states to include response to emergency and distress calls especially on the highways connecting the two states, while also combating the threats along the border corridors.

It indicated plans by the two states to deploy CCTV on inter state highways as well as ensuring the harmonization of all voluntary policing and informal security outfits in both states.

The Communique signed by both Governors Abiodun and Makinde indicated that they both reaffirmed their commitment to the attainment of the objectives of the joint security initiatives while setting up the implementation team to work out the required modalities and programmes for the successful implementation.
