Verify Every Information Before Dishing It Out – U.S Charges Nigerian Media

Content providers have been advised to be professional and verify any information before disseminating it to the public.

Deputy Public Affairs Officer, United States Consular General, Lagos, Mrs Jennifer Foltz gave the advice in Ibadan at the opening of a two-day workshop on fact check project for media professionals in Oyo state.

Mrs Foltz said many contents are being manipulated to suit personal intention of the source to misinform the public, hence media professionals should be concerned about facts checking information.

She said the workshop was to train media professionals in seventeen states of the federation on skills to identify pieces that are fake and raise an army of campaigners against fake news.

Also speaking, a facilitator, former zonal director, FRCN, South East, Mr Ike Okere emphasized the need for training and retraining of content providers.

Mr Okere also advised members of the public to get information right before raising concerns on them.

About twenty two participants are presently attending the workshop on the project fact check.
