Ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria and to strengthen the country’s democratic system, there is the need for the Broadcast media to always make audience interest a priority in their election programming.

A senior lecturer at the University of Ibadan, department of communication and language arts, Professor Ayobami Ojebode, made the assertion in Ibadan at a two-day workshop organized for broadcast media professionals in Nigeria by the European Union support to Democratic governance in Nigeria in conjunction with Institute for Media and Society, IMS.

Professor Ojebode explained that Broadcast media professionals should ensure they were actively involved in all stages of the nation’s electoral process, especially in educating the electorate on taking the right decision. 

Speaking on the topic” Deepening Audience Research Electoral Cycle Programming”, Professor Ojebode explained that it was high time broadcast media intimated  their audience on the proper electoral process to strengthen the system

Earlier, in an address of welcome, the Executive Director, Institute for Media and Society, IMS, Dr. Akin Akingbulu said the workshop was to educate journalists on the need to be fair and accurate in election coverage 

Dr. Akingbulu said media professionals should conduct reasonable research before going on air to prevent cause chaos among parties involved.

Broadcast media professionals from Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo Lagos, Kwara, and Delta states are attending the workshop.
