The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed disappointment over the non-assent to the electoral act amendment bill by President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the situation as a grave danger to the nation’s democracy.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Debo Ologunagba said the situation could trigger a political crisis in the country.

The PDP spokesman drew the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the development and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to do whatever it takes to stand with Nigerians by using electronic means to ensure a free and credible election.

The president had earlier explained that he withheld assent to the bill due to Section 84 which provides for only direct primary for getting party candidates in elections, a section that has now been amended by the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the PDP has constituted campaign councils for Cross River, Ondo and Imo States bye-elections.
