Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force says about fifteen persons have been arrested over the clash between some miscreants and scavengers in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi the fifteen arrested persons were suspected to have participated in the incident.

Mr Oyeyemi noted that the police were carrying out investigation on the incident.

He emphasized that no life was lost during the fracas that generated fears among traders in the market.

The crisis was reported to have started on Monday evening at the rail line axis of the popular Lafenwa Market of Abeokuta metropolis when some miscreants allegedly set some market stalls ablaze.

It was gathered that the miscreants had approached the driver of a truck at the Lafenwa Market, where they demanded a certain financial inducement for them to clear traffic and enable the truck to manoeuvre the traffic build-up at the market.

One of the traders, Mrs Sobaloju, who witnessed the incident said the money offered by the truck driver was picked by one of the scavengers, who allegedly ran to hide in one of the stalls in the market.

She noted that rumours of the death of the scavenger as he was attacked by miscreants forced his colleagues to seek revenge on the miscreants at the market where some market stalls were set ablaze.
