Ogun State Government has advised residents living in floods prone areas to relocate to a higher ground to forestall dangers associated with flash floods in the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya gave this advice while briefing newsmen in Abeokuta on the STATE FLOOD OUTLOOK FOR THE YEAR 2022.
Mr Oresanya noted that, the Nigeria Meteorology Agency, NIMET, had predicted that Ogun state being a coastal State in the Country would experience prolonged rainfall that would be accompanied with flash flood in most parts of the State, especially, in the months of June and July hence, the need for residents to take precautionary measures during the season.
He announced that the present administration had embarked on projects that would prevent flooding across the state including the construction of canals and coverts as well as dredging of rivers and canals.
Mr Oresanya said the Governor had directed that the flood Emergency Management Unit,  be decentralised into all the 20 Local Government Areas of the State to foster response to emergency calls during the raining season.
