It is achievable to have a malaria-free society if Nigerians adhere to safety precautions against the spread of the scourge.

Primary Health Care Coordinator, Oluyole local government, Mrs Adebola Adelakun made this known during a day sensitization outreach held in some communities under the local government area.

Mrs Adelakun who said total eradication of malaria in Nigeria and Oyo state was possible if residents follow proper environmental hygiene and make use of the insecticide-treated net.

While commending governor Seyi Makinde for his giant stride at rolling out malaria in the state, the Malaria Focal person, Oluyole local government Mrs Abiola Ajayi said the council has recorded a steady reduction in the cases as a result of sensitization and awareness campaigns.

Mrs Abiola advised residents to ensure the environments are clean while objects breeding mosquitoes at homes and stagnated waters are evacuated.

Some of the participants commended the sensitization campaign and called for regular conduct of the exercise.

Highlights of the zero tolerance to malaria campaign which was in commemoration of this year’s world Malaria day included free test, treatment and distribution of handbills.
