Pensioners from the thirty three local government areas of Oyo state on Tuesday, besieged the state secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan to appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde for the prompt payment of their entitlements.

The Pensioners were full of praises for the massive turn around of their standard of living since Governor Makinde came on board.

Speaking on behalf of the Pensioners, state secretary of the Union, Dr. Olusegun Abatan stated that the senior citizens had been confronted with untold hardship before the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

“Before you came on board, anybody could know a Pensioner walking on the street with unstable gait ready to fall at the honking of the commercial vehicles/okada. Many times, the Union was called to come and carry our members that fell on the streets. Many died because of inability to procure simple medicaments. There was a year we recorded 516 deaths among us”

Dr. Abatan said stalled gratuities to retired Primary school teachers and Pensioners in the mainstream were now paid promptly to living beneficiaries and next of kins of deceased Pensioners.

Comrade Abatan who assured the Governor of Pensioners support in the 2023 elections, commended him for not using the COVID-19 pandemic and the present economic situation of the country to shortchange retirees and workers of the state.

Responding, Governor Makinde, who was later joined by a PDP Presidential Aspirant, Dr. Bukola Saraki at the mega rally, promised to sustain the payment of the pensions and gratuities on twenty fifth of every month.

Governor Makinde said that the wellbeing of the pensioners was so paramount to his administration having served the state and contributed to its development.

He pointed out that if pensioners were well taken care of, they would definitely enjoy the rest of their lives as rest is sweet after labour, adding that his family background had taught him about the need to always cater for the elderly.

Highlight of the programme was special interdenominational prayer for Governor Seyi Makinde.
