As parts of activities to mark this year ‘World No Tobacco Day’, an Environment expert, Mr Oladejo Adeola has called on government to create policies that would end the planting of tobacco in the country.

Mr Adeola made the call in an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria.

He explained that planting of Tobacco has led to deforestation, in such a way that the cutting of tress for planting had caused natural disasters to the environment and to human health.

Commenting on the hazards posed to health, A Medical practitioner at the University College Hospital ibadan, Dr Olusola Ibiyemi affirmed that the consumption of Tobacco affect the respiratory system and organs of the body which could eventually lead to cancer.

Dr Ibiyemi urged tobacco consumers in the country to desist from the deadly act saying it could also posed health threat to their neighbour’s.

World Health Organization, WHO, sets aside 31st May each year to mark WORLD NO TOBACCO Day.

This year theme is ‘Protect The Environment’.
