The Independent NationaI Electoral Commission says the 2022 Electoral Act will be its guiding principle in the conduct of June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.

INEC NationaI Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye made this known in Ado Ekiti while declaring open a capacity building organized for journalists in the state.

Mr Okoye told men of the pen profession to familiarize themselves with the new Electoral Act so as to cover the election successfully.

He appealed to them to shun fake news and other acts capable of undermining the smooth and peaceful conduct of the poll.

On their parts, two aides to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi and Professor Bolade Eyinla reassured the people of Ekiti State that the electoral umpire would not disappoint them on June 18.

Earlier, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Adeniran Tella who spoke through the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Femi Akinbiyi said the workshop was put together to equip the journalists with necessary information ahead of the election, urging them to abide by with they learnt at the training.

In his remarks, the NUJ Chairmam in Ekiti State, Mr Rotimi Ojomoyela said a task force had been constituted to fish out any fake journalist in Ekiti State during the election.
